Her eldest son, Alex, has become a successful cabinetmaker and furniture salesman; her daughter Caitlin is a promising dress designer; while the youngest, Mary, is a diligent student. But the arrival of four-year-old Rowena, Kirsty's granddaughter by marriage, throws the family's plans for the future into disarray. Conflict flies when Rose Hamilton, one of Kirsty's partners in a second-hand clothing store buys the mill her son Alex Lennox had his eye on destroying their friendship. The dispute is further compounded when Rose invites Caitlin Lennox to become a dress designer for her new high-end clothing business.
