This Renfrewshire small town has its origins in the 13th century although most of the development took place in the Victorian era. The book follows the usual 'old towns' format combining potted history with period photographs annotated by detailed captions. Most of the town's older streets are featured, as is the former hydro (demolished 1974), the former Sailor's Home and the railway station (closed 1983).
